What levels of membership can I set in a House?
You can set three levels of membership for your House - open to all, by approval, and invite-only.
Open to all Membership allows anyone on Clubhouse to join your House! There is no waitlist - when someone joins, they immediately become a member of the House. Your members will also be able to share the unique House link to invite their friends to join without sitting on a waitlist, and your member list will always be public.
Approved Membership requires everyone to join a waitlist and be approved before they become members. People will be able to join the waitlist when they find the House in search or from their friend’s activities, or they may be invited by House members. Members will also be able to approve their friends once they’ve joined the waitlist. House Founders who set their membership to approved and want to cultivate a more curated community can hide their member list.
Invite-only Membership requires everyone to be invited - there is no waitlist to join. This membership level also allows founders to hide their member list!!
Open Membership Settings
As far as setup goes, Open to all (Open) Membership is just a single setting, allowing anyone on the app to join, and members to share the House link with their friends freely. Make sure to fill out your House description - include some rules here - to help your new members orient themselves to your House!
Approved Membership Settings
Approved memberships give House founders a little more control over who can join, and what information is visible to future members.
These Houses will have waitlists that can be viewed from the who can join menu. Founders can enable a waitlist question to help gauge who will be a great addition to their community, and decide if they’d like their members to be able to invite others to join the House as well. Members who have friends on the waitlist will be able to approve their membership if they have invites left.
If Founders want to establish a more private community, they can hide their member list. This means that the member list will only be visible to members, the House will not show up on member profiles, and rooms hosted in the House won’t be able to be made public.
Invite-only Membership Settings
Invite-only Houses are our most strict House membership experience. New members will only be able to join by invite - either by the founder themselves or members (if they’re allowed to share invites.)
This Membership level also allows for hiding the member list. This allows for the most private and curated House experience - only members can see who is in the House, rooms will always be private to House members, and the House will not be visible on member profiles.
